7th Grade Resources

Page history last edited by Tim Brister 4 years, 10 months ago

This is a place for links to specific resources for 7th grade mathematics.  They are matched to the Arkansas and CCSS-M standards.  The units and standards associated with each of these resources is only a suggestion based on the opinion of the person(s) who created the link and is not intended to be a specific interpretation of the standards.  Many of the resources could be used in different or even in multiple units.

-----------Special thanks to participants in the summer 2012 7th Grade professional development at Harding University STEM Center for sharing links they have found.------------

Be sure to check out Illustrative Mathematics, https://www.illustrativemathematics.org,  for the standards taught in each unit. This site is organized by standard.  Because of the number of tasks on that site, not all of the tasks are included here.  More tasks are being added to that site all the time.  It is a great resource for tasks that match the CCSSM.

Ratios and Proportional Relationships 7.RP

The Number System 7.NS

***Many of these resources focus on integers, not rational numbers.  They will need to be adapted to include other rational numbers.***

  • 7.NS.2,3 - Division - http://map.mathshell.org/materials/tasks.php?taskid=368&subpage=apprentice - a MARS task asking students to see what problems 100/6 might solve.
  • 7.NS.1 - Adding and Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbershttp://nrich.maths.org/5947 - an introduction to adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers -- this is a little different than ones I've seen before and incorporates ideas of two color counters and fact families.
  • 7.NS.1 - Worthless Words ContestWorthless Words.pdf - The attached pdf has a worthless words chart (3 per page) and a list of worthless words that my classes found one year (not an exhaustive list).  A word is a "worthless word" if the values associated with he letters in each word add up to zero.
  • 7.NS.1 - Hot Summer...Cold Winter - http://www.yummymath.com/2012/hot-summer-cold-winter-2/ - Problem asking students to choose hottest and coldest temperatures from a list.  They then explore the differences in the hottest and coldest temperatures.  A number line representation is used.
  • 7.NS - Hot Air Balloon Unit - http://www.supermathunits.com/files/hot_air_ballon_unit.pdf - A unit using hot air balloons to introduce adding and subtracting integers.
  • 7.NS - Hot Air Balloon Integers on Math Village - http://www.mathvillage.info/node/62 - site includes problems, videos, and applets using hot air balloons to introduce integers.
  • 7.NS - Integers Web-quest - http://teacherweb.com/WQ/MiddleSchool/Integer -- An integers web-quest with topics coordinate plane, history of negative numbers, ruled for integer operations, integers in everyday life and others.
  • 7.NS.2 - Why is a Negative Number Times a Negative Number a Positive Number? - http://jwilson.coe.uga.edu/EMAT6680/Brown/6690/negneg.htm - ideas for helping students understand why a negative times a negative is a positive.

Expressions and Equations 7.EE

Geometry 7.G

Statistics and Probability 7.SP
