Page history last edited by Tim Brister 9 months, 4 weeks ago

This page is a collection of some math sites that may or may not be specific to certain standards, but would still generate interest or deepen understanding of mathematics.

8 Math Talks to Blow Your Mind -- http://blog.ted.com/2012/11/21/8-math-talks-to-blow-your-mind/ -- links to 8 TED talks about the application of mathematics.  Some topics include the math of coral, the mathematics of cities, and mathemagic.

Paper Models of Polyhedra -- http://www.korthalsaltes.com/ -- a few hundred paper models available for free.

Mathematics in Movies -- http://www.math.harvard.edu/~knill/mathmovies/ -- a collection of movie clips that contain mathematics

Numberphile videos -- http://www.youtube.com/user/numberphile -- videos on math applications, interesting numbers, and number relationships.  A lot of engaging mathematics is embedded in these videos.  You can also subscribe to Numberphile on You Tube.  One video I watched was about the mathematical flaw in the Enigma code machine used in WWII.  Some of the video series that have been posted are Yahtzee, Prime Numbers, Rubik's Cube, and pi.

Vihart Videos -- https://www.khanacademy.org/math/recreational-math/vi-hart -- Victoria Hart, a self proclaimed "mathemusician" has created some of the most popular videos on the Internet, and they are about math!.  Her videos make serious math (logarithms, Fibonacci, pi, Pythagoras, ...) seem simple and fun.  Many off the highlight the connection between math, art, music, etc.
